VERSAILLES, KY (May 16, 2024) – Bluegrass Community Hospital recently announced that Barbara (Barb) Martin, an Emergency Room registrar, has been recognized as the facility’s 2024 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.
“At Bluegrass Community Hospital, we are committed to advancing Lifepoint’s mission of making communities healthier, and our devoted team members are critical to this work – especially Barb Martin,” said David Steitz, CEO of Bluegrass Community Hospital. “She has truly been a servant leader at BGCH through starting the hospital’s clothing drive, where patients in need can leave the Emergency Room with new clothing.”
Barb has been employed by Bluegrass Community Hospital for over 15 years. She is not only dedicated to her job as a registrar but finds time to lifts coworkers and patients up in difficult times. Barb Martin also provides ministry and volunteers with the Isaiah House at their Versailles Women’s Center. From planning activities for the women, to fundraising and making treats, Barbara empowers women to not let addiction define the rest of their lives.
Each facility winner, including Barbara Martin, will be considered for Lifepoint’s 2024 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August.
