VERSAILLES, Ky. (July 24, 2023) – The Wound Care Center at Bluegrass Community Hospital, located at 360 Amsden Avenue in Versailles, is now open and ready to offer advanced wound care for people living with chronic, non-healing wounds. Bluegrass Community Hospital has partnered with Healogics, a national leader in chronic wound care services. Healogics is headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, and has a nationwide network of over 600 Wound Care Centers.
“We are thrilled to expand our specialty services right here in Woodford County,” says David Steitz, Chief Executive Officer at Bluegrass Community Hospital. “Our hospital’s inpatient specialty is swing bed (short-term rehabilitation) and many of our patients will benefit from outpatient wound care services after they are discharged.”
The Center is also proud to announce that Bluegrass Community Hospital’s board-certified general surgeon, Dr. M. Ross Tekulve, will serve as the Wound Care Medical Director. In collaboration with Healogics, Dr. Tekulve received extensive training and education. Stephane Young, BSN, RN, WCC OMS, T-CHEST has been named the Wound Care Center Clinical Director. She joins the team after years of experience in wound care and has previously served as a wound care and ostomy nurse on the inpatient floor at both Bluegrass Community Hospital and Georgetown Community Hospital.
The Wound Care Center at Bluegrass Community offers an evidence-based, systematic approach to advanced wound care. A patient’s individualized treatment plan may include specialized wound dressings, debridement, compression therapy, advanced cellular products and topical growth factors, edema management and/or non-invasive vascular assessment. These treatments are the result of a team approach between the Center’s physicians, nurses and the referring physician. A treatment plan is developed and scheduled based on the patient’s needs. Once treatment is complete, the patient will return to their primary physician to continue routine care.
Likely candidates for treatment at the Center are those suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections, compromised skin grafts and flaps, and wounds that haven't healed within a reasonable time frame. People with wounds that have not improved with traditional methods of treatment may benefit from a visit to Wound Care Center at Bluegrass Community. No referral is needed and appointments may be made by calling 859.879.2384.
